Events like contests and exhibitions are great oppotunities for us to share our artpieces with others. To get some feedback on what we do, how we can get better. There is always something to learn, something to try. These events are treasuries of inspiration, information and great relationships from all over the world.
It is the largest annual quilt show, sale, and Quiltmaking Academy in the world. Quilt artis from all over the world come to Houston for the International Quilt Festival.
The show drew a total of 60,713 attendees over the course of four and a half days in 2013.
Thousands have enrolled for the Festival’s Quiltmaking Academy, which offered hundreds of classes, lectures, and events taught by the world’s best educational instructors.
At the shopping area long isles of booths, offering everything from finished antique and contemporary quilts to fabrics, books, notions, sewingmachines, patterns, crafts, and jewelry.

How did "May Tree" and I get here?
I read about the contests of the Quilt Show and among the many categories I found a special Exhibit, called TRADITIONS. Since spring was coming, me as a Hungarian thought of the tradition of young men standing a May Tree in front of the house of the loved girl, to show their affection and guard it all night, so that the rivals can not take it away.
The first day of May is the celebration of new life, rebirth, youth, and youngs go out to dance around the May Tree in their nice folk clothes.
That is the theme that I appliquéd on the quilt, making some parts, like the skirts , shirts and hairs three dimensional. I used traditional folk art elments on the tree with authentic coloration.
Attendees first had to email a photograph of their quilts for judgement and the best 22 could send their quilts to the exhibition. My quilt was among the lucky ones, that could enter the Show and travel with it for a year from show to show around the US.
Mother Earth Is Our Home
Being excited and inspired by the first Festival I followed up the exhibits next year. The title was Home and I already had a dream about Mother Earth, that just matched right to the theme. Making this quilt was a real journey searching for the cultural and natural treasures of all continents. I found so much beauty, I had a hard time to select them. Making this quilt I wished to express my deep gratitude and appreciation towards nature and our wonderful Planet.
The Festival of Quilts in Birmingham is Europe’s leading patchwork and quilting show. It was another great opportunity to share my quilt on exhibition, to learn, inspire and get inspired by the wonderful quilts of others.
